Celanese has long helped carpet manufacturers to meet traditional performance requirements in carpet backings including tuft bind strength, fire resistance, smoke suppression, and water resistance. Today, the marketplace is even more complicated by the consumer and regulations both requiring increased sustainability. Celanese has been actively pursuing emulsions which balance high performance with sustainability criteria. Dur-O-Set® TX-849, a new latex as of 2008, is specifically designed for improved compatibility with fillers that are difficult to compound. This emulsion can fit with manufacturers’ strategies to increase recycled content in their carpet.
